1st Italian Surfing Congress
Jul 13, 2010 at 09:58 PM

Dear Friends,
As you all know I was recently in Italy for the 1st Italian Surfing Congress. The number of people present was approximately 25. Some important surfing personalities were there such as Maurizio Spinas, Giuseppe Arioni, Carlo Piccinini, Leonardo D`Angelo, Alessandro Dini, etc. Everyone agreed that the situation regarding Surfing in Italy must change. The information conveyed was that Surfing Italy no longer functions, and it is everyone’s wish to congregate in one Federation. One of those present was Alessandro Dini, former FISURF President and member of Surfing Italy. Alessandro understands that something needs to be done and he will help to promote, within Italy, the unification of Surf in FISURF.

The first point was the nomination of a new FISURF Committee. This committee is tasked to develop a new constitution (according to the requests made by CONI), to gain recognition by CONI, to formulate new regulations which support clubs and individuals and a new electoral system, with a view to having elections in 2011. The new Committee is:

Leonard D`Angelo
Oliviero Geroldi - General Secretary and Treasurer
Fabio D`Anna - Didactic Area, Laws, etc
Giuseppe Arioni - Judging
Carlo Piccinini - Technical area
Gennaro Capasso - Communication

Each member gave a short presentation about what they will do within the Committee and how they will achieve this in the following months. During the afternoon there was a discussion about the historical lack of communication between SI and FISURF. Members agreed to hold more meetings in strategic areas and to communicate directly with the surfers and clubs.

Members also expressed their thanks for the letter from the European Surfing Federation which opened the eyes of FISURF. Members agreed to talk more with ESF in the future.

Regards,
Rui Felix, Technical Director ESF
