For Marco Gregori, head coach and captain of the Squadra Azzurra, winning in Santa Cruz was a dream come true:
“For a country like ours, with no great waves, this moment is incredible, it is truly a dream. We wrote history for the Italian Surfing Federation, by being for the first time European Champions. During the week the waves were good but with difficult circumstances due to the constant shift in wave conditions. The Italian team is really solid and adapted to the strategy and tactics needed for this competition. The level of the other teams was great, each country was really strong with the majority having greater experience then we did.
