The “Lukas Skinner Show” steals the spotlight at Santa Cruz
Lukas Skinner was the undisputed star of the second day of the Eurosurf Junior 2024 that runs until Friday at Santa Cruz, Portugal.
The son of English longboarding legend Ben Skinner and under 16 European champion, looked like a very strong bet for a “back-to-back” title and a great contributor to an English charge at the collective European title at Santa Cruz.
Lukas scored the highest wave at the event so far, a 9.00, with a flawless air reverse to the flats that some might say could easily be a perfect 10, in a total score of 15.50.
The young Skinner added a 6.50 with a strong display of rail surfing, showing all that he has the total package and is not just a one trick pony.
“Of course, I would love to win another individual European title but my main goal is to help the English team to improve on our last performance here [in 2022] when we got three golds, and finally win the European title”, said Lukas Skinner.
Other standouts of the day were Spain’s Dylan Donegan (15.00) and Italy’s Alberto Barzan (14.25), both with 8-point scores.
The weather was the other actor in today’s play, with fog and small but fun waves in the morning and the late afternoon after a few hours of stoppage due to the high tide and lack of waves.
