The Portuguese Surfing Federation announced on Monday the passing away of 1991 European vice-champion João Alexandre 'Dapin'.

It is with a heavy hart we post this sad news and give our most heartfelt sympathy to family and friends for such tremendous loss.

João Aranha, president of the Federação Portuguesa de Surf said: “Dapin was and will always be a core reference in national surf, someone who 'raised the bar', someone who willed other surfers into being better just to reach his level. I've known him since the 90s, always as a reference to others! In these last years, as FPS moved to the beach, I would find him at Carcavelos whenever there were waves, full of energy and always with new 'ideas' for the FPS. You will be sorely missed! Enjoy the waves wherever you are!"
