The Eurosurf Junior draped Santa Cruz in flags and in the promise of great surfing.
Today was a great day for European surfing with the return of the Eurosurf Junior to Santa Cruz with the traditional and always exciting parade of nations, when all the 14 national teams walked through Santa Cruz and arrived at Mirante beach for the symbolic ceremony where the young surfers mix the sand of their countries in a powerful analogy for the healthy competition that will unravel until July 24th, the day when the new European champion will emerge.
The ceremony was also attended by the mayor of Torres Vedras, the host municipality, and was enjoyed by an enthusiastic local crowd.
Meanwhile, it’s all surfing, with a very good forecast for this week. Another ingredient for the collective good mood. One that is personified by João Aranha, president of the Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS) and member of the European Surfing Federation (ESF)executive committee.
“First of all it is with great joy and honor that Portugal is, once more, host of another European championship, the Eurosurf Junior in this case. It is the welcomed return to normality and further more, with good waves on the forecast. All the conditions for a great surfing event and a festival of sport, youth and friendship among nations. A powerful message in these days of global turmoil. So, let the games begin!”
