The ISA World Championships have just come to a close with a impressive haul of medals and performances for the European surfing continent.

Janire Gonzales Extabari on top of the world!

The young Spanish surfer performed consistently throughout the competition, confirming her status as a leading professional surfer on the international circuit after an incredible 2025 season.

A multiple finalist in the main European WQS events and European team champion with the Spanish team last July, she needed one more victory to definitively validate this exceptional year.

Now she has done it!

Yolanda “YoYo” Hopkins is one step away from the Holy Grail.

The Portuguese surfer, currently ranked number 2 on the Challenger Series circuit, also put in a superb performance at the 2025 World Championships. Always in the final four of the last CS, she produced powerful surfing with a relevant choice of waves, allowing her to score 4 waves above 5 points in the final and narrowly beat Sally Fitzgibbons, the Australian CT veteran and multiple ISA World Champion.

Crowned Olympic champion in Tahiti in 2024, the Frenchman, who had a flawless run from the first round to the final, was unable to reach the top step of the podium in the final, as Australian Dane Henry's gamble of focusing entirely on aerial maneuvers paid off.

Spain joined France on the podium.

At the end of 10 days of grueling competition for the bodies and minds of the 61 countries involved, under the Salvadoran sun and heat, the European continent confirmed its status as the leader on the international scene.

Spain took third place, behind Australia and Peru, while France took fourth place.

Europe has nine countries in the ISA world top 10, and given the average age and talent of the young athletes in the leading European countries, it's a safe bet that the future of European surfing is looking very bright for LA28.
