The European Surfing Federation (ESF), in partnership with Irish Surfing, is formally pleased to announce that Ireland has been selected to host the EuroSurf Junior Championships from 24 September to 4 October 2026. The event will be staged in Bundoran, County Donegal.

This appointment represents a significant milestone for Irish Surfing and for the continued development of the sport across Europe. For the first time, the ESF’s flagship junior championship will be delivered on Irish shores, bringing together 20 Member Nations and Europe’s leading junior athletes in an official European Championship event.
The EuroSurf Junior Championships will contest six recognised European Championship divisions:
- Under 16 Boys
- Under 16 Girls
- Under 18 Boys
- Under 18 Girls
- Under 18 Longboard Boys
- Under 18 Longboard Girls
The Championships form a central pillar of the European junior performance pathway. The event serves as a key progression platform toward senior European representation, international competition, and Olympic qualification structures under the International Surfing Federation framework.
Ireland’s selection as host nation reflects the confidence of the ESF in Irish Surfing’s governance standards, operational capability, and event delivery expertise. Ireland has previously hosted major European competitions, including the EuroSurf Senior Championships in 1997 and 2011. However, 2026 will mark the first occasion on which the nation hosts the ESF’s premier junior championship event.
Bundoran, County Donegal, has been identified as the official venue following a thorough evaluation process. The location offers established competition infrastructure, experienced local event personnel, strong community engagement, and proven capacity to deliver international-level surfing events in accordance with ESF technical and organisational standards.
The EuroSurf Junior Championships represent an important strategic opportunity for Irish Surfing. Hosting the event aligns directly with its long-term objectives in junior athlete development, high-performance progression, coach education, and competition pathway strengthening.
The Championships will provide Irish junior athletes with the opportunity to compete at European Championship level in a home environment, while contributing to broader national participation growth through club, school, and regional engagement initiatives.
In addition to its sporting impact, the event is expected to generate measurable economic and social benefit for the host region. The Championships will attract athletes, team officials, technical staff, and accompanying supporters from across Europe, delivering sustained activity across accommodation, hospitality, transport, and local services throughout Donegal and the wider north-west region.
The international media profile associated with the EuroSurf Junior Championships will further reinforce Ireland’s standing within the European surfing community and enhance the country’s visibility as a recognised destination for international sport and coastal tourism.
Further operational details, including the official event bulletin, technical regulations, and team registration timelines, will be issued by the European Surfing Federation and the Irish Surfing Federation in due course.
